slayed
Days stumble by as I fall deeper into the dark- A place that is now called home. Without you the world is dim And the things that once sparkled have lost their shine. You were the brightest light, Yet something unimaginable clung to you. This beast you fought with the highest spirits Defying every word the doctor brought. Strides were made and steps were taken back, Trying to tackle the beast that was overcoming you And slowly the beast advanced. Stealing the sparkle in your eye and the fight in your heart, Taking away your youth, The precious breaths that were rightfully yours but, Slowly you became a slave to the beast. The fight was almost over. Screaming and clawing you gave it all of your might, But the beast prevailed. Stealing the brightness from the sky Taking the happiness in hearts, The hope, the joy, the future. Yes, the future. The beast stole the brightest future from the brightest girl. Yet, you’re legacy is present And to the beast- he failed. Though the battle was lost, Your presence is found. You might be gone, But the beast was slayed. |
RIP Madison Kathleen Watts
"My greatest experience" My poem is much like Stephen Dunn's poem in the way that it evokes emotion. It touches on subjects that anyone could feel. In my piece, I explain the loss of my dear friend and how things don't seem to shine as bright anymore without her here. Life has lost some of it's shine and things are dull. In Dunn's piece he uses the word sweetness which is similar to my light. It seems that we find our brightest or sweetest moments in life, but the beast or tragedy strikes and the darkness comes rolling in and the sweetness lingers away. Dunn's piece is a story of how the goodness of the present is often times only temporary. Just as my best friend and her brightness on this earth was but a temporary experience in my life. |
